Score your Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test with the exact official scoring tables โ not approximations. Pull-ups or push-ups, plank, and the 3-mile run.
The PFT has three events, each worth up to 100 points for a 300-point maximum: pull-ups or push-ups (push-ups cap at 70), the forearm plank, and a 3-mile run. This calculator uses the exact rep-by-rep and time-by-time values from the official Marine Corps scoring tables published at fitness.marines.mil, including the current plank standard (3:45 for 100 points, 1:10 minimum) that took effect with the 2022 update. Crunches were eliminated entirely on January 1, 2023 โ the plank is now mandatory.
| Class | Score Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Class | 235 โ 300 | Required for many competitive programs and boards |
| 2nd Class | 200 โ 234 | |
| 3rd Class | 150 โ 199 | Minimum passing, must also meet each event minimum |
Effective January 1, 2026, Marines in combat arms MOSs โ infantry, artillery, reconnaissance, and similar billets โ must score at least 210 points using male, age-normed scoring standards, regardless of sex. Toggle this calculator to "Male" to check your score against that standard.
| Event | Men โ 100 pts | Women โ 100 pts | Minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pull-ups | 23 | 11 | 5 / 3 reps |
| Push-ups (70 pt cap) | 87 | 48 | 40 / 18 reps |
| Plank | 3:45 | 3:45 | 1:10 |
| 3-Mile Run | 18:00 | 21:00 | 27:40 / 30:50 |
Standards shift with age โ this calculator applies the correct bracket automatically across all eight age groups from 17-20 to 51+. Wondering where you stand? See average 3-mile run times and average plank times for civilian benchmarks. Training for the run? Pull-ups, in almost every case where you can perform more than the minimum. Because push-ups cap at 70 points, a Marine who maxes push-ups still scores 30 points below a Marine who maxes pull-ups โ the difference between a mid 2nd Class and a 1st Class score with identical performance elsewhere.
235+ (1st Class) is the standard to aim for โ it's expected for promotion competitiveness, and many special programs screen at 250+. The Corps-wide average typically lands in the 240s, so a passing 3rd Class score of 150 sits well below the middle of the pack.
The plank is scored identically for all ages and sexes: 3:45 earns 100 points, and the scale runs down to 40 points at 1:10. Below 1:10 is an event failure. Each second counts, so training an extra 15-30 seconds of hold time is one of the cheapest score gains on the test.
The official tables score the run in 10-second increments, and a time between increments moves you to the next slower bracket โ a 24:01 scores as 24:10. Build a 10-15 second buffer into your goal pace so a slow final stretch doesn't cost you a bracket.
