Check your Marine Corps body composition against the new 2026 waist-to-height ratio standard (WHtR ≤ 0.52) and, if needed, the official body fat tape test with max body fat percentages by age.
Step 1 — Waist-to-Height Ratio Screen
Step 2 — Body Fat Tape Test (only required if you exceed the WHtR standard)
Effective 1 January 2026 (MARADMIN 066/26), the Marine Corps replaced the old height/weight tables with a single sex-neutral waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) standard of 0.52 or lower. Your waist is measured at the navel with a self-tensioning tape, taken twice, with the lower reading recorded and rounded down to the nearest half-inch. If your waist divided by your height is 0.52 or less, you are within standards and no body fat measurement is required. Only Marines who exceed the WHtR standard move to a body fat evaluation using the multi-site tape test or a bioelectrical impedance (BIA) device.
| Height | Max Waist | Height | Max Waist |

| 5'8" (68") | 35.0" | 6'2" (74") | 38.0" |
| 5'9" (69") | 35.5" | 6'4" (76") | 39.5" |
| Age | Men | Women |
|---|---|---|
| 17–25 | 18% | 26% |

| 46+ | 21% | 29% |
Body fat is estimated with the Department of Defense circumference formula — neck and abdomen for men; neck, waist, and hip for women — the same math behind the official tape test. Strong fitness scores raise your ceiling: a 250+ on both the PFT and CFT adds 1% of allowable body fat, and 285+ on both allows up to 26% (men) / 36% (women).
0.52 or lower, measured as your waist circumference at the navel divided by your height, and it's the same for every Marine regardless of sex. If your ratio is 0.52 or less you're within standards and skip the body fat measurement entirely.
You move to a body fat evaluation using the multi-site tape test and/or a BIA device. You pass if your estimated body fat is at or below the maximum for your age — 18% to 21% for men and 26% to 29% for women — plus any allowance earned from high PFT and CFT scores.
No. Weight is recorded in 2026 for data collection only and is not used for any body composition determination. The standard is based entirely on your waist relative to your height.
Scoring 250 or higher on both the PFT and CFT adds 1% to your allowable body fat. Scoring 285 or higher on both raises the ceiling to 26% for men and 36% for women — the most generous allowance in the program.
